How APR and APY convert
APR is the simple yearly rate. APY includes compounding: with an APR of r compounded n times a year, APY = (1 + r/n)n − 1. Going back, APR = n × ((1 + APY)1/n − 1).
The more often rewards compound, the bigger the gap between the two. At low rates the difference is small; at high rates it gets large.

Questions
Which is higher, APR or APY?
APY, whenever rewards compound more than once a year. That is why platforms often advertise the APY.
Do staking rewards compound automatically?
Only if they are restaked. Some platforms do it for you, others pay rewards that you have to restake yourself. Without restaking, you earn the APR.
Is a high APY safe?
Not necessarily. Very high rates usually come with higher risk: new tokens, lockups, or platforms that may not be able to pay. The rate also says nothing about the coin's price.
