Best crypto exchange in India (2026)

Every crypto platform that serves Indian users has to register with FIU-IND, the finance ministry’s anti-money-laundering unit. These five are registered: four Indian apps that take rupees by UPI or bank transfer, and Binance, which does not. They differ on fees, on SIPs and, more than anywhere else, on whether you can move your coins out. Here is how they compare.

None of the exchanges on this page pay us. Disclosure.

Each exchange in more detail

Mudrex

Mudrex is registered with FIU-IND and says over 30 lakh Indians use it. Rupee deposits by UPI or IMPS and rupee withdrawals are free. Buying and selling on its spot market costs 0.45% plus 18% GST below ₹2,00,000 of trading in 30 days, falling to 0.42% and then 0.25% as you trade more.

It lists over 650 coins. SIPs run daily, weekly or monthly from ₹100 per instalment and can be paused or stopped at any time. You can withdraw coins to your own wallet, but it costs 2% of the amount, at least $0.50, GST included, which is expensive for large amounts.

CoinDCX

CoinDCX is registered with FIU-IND through Neblio Technologies. Rupee deposits by UPI, IMPS, NEFT or RTGS are free from ₹500, and withdrawals are free from ₹100. Every rupee trade, including its simple Insta buy and SIPs, costs 0.50% plus 18% GST below ₹2,00,000 of trading in 30 days, and 0.17% from ₹5,00,000.

It lists over 500 coins, and SIPs can run daily, weekly or monthly. Withdrawing crypto to your own wallet is not open to everyone: CoinDCX grants it after a risk and compliance check, and once it is switched on you can no longer deposit rupees by UPI, only by bank transfer such as NEFT.

ZebPay

ZebPay has been running for twelve years and is registered with FIU-IND. Rupee deposits are free from a bank account registered in your name; money sent from any other account costs ₹500 to return. Each rupee withdrawal costs ₹15, and all its fees are before 18% GST.

Its order book charges 0.45% for both makers and takers below ₹5,00,000 of trading in 30 days, and 0.18% above that. Quick Trade, the simple buy screen, starts at 0.5% and shows the exact fee before you confirm. SIPs run daily, weekly or monthly as Quick Trade orders. It lists over 100 coins and lets you withdraw them. If you make no trade in a month it charges a membership fee of 0.0001 BTC, unless you use its Earn feature.

CoinSwitch

CoinSwitch, run by Bitcipher Labs LLP, is registered with FIU-IND and says it has over 2 crore users. You add rupees by UPI or bank transfer, buy from ₹100 and can set up a monthly SIP. It lists over 400 coins.

Two things to know before you sign up. It does not publish its trading fees on its website; you see them in the app before you confirm. And it does not let you withdraw crypto to your own wallet: you can send coins in, but to take money out you have to sell for rupees.

Binance

Binance was blocked in India for operating without FIU-IND registration, registered in May 2024 and was fined ₹18.82 crore by FIU-IND in June 2024. Its spot market charges 0.10% for makers and takers at the lowest tier, 25% less if you pay fees in BNB. It lists hundreds of coins.

It does not take rupees directly. To fund your account you buy USDT from another user on Binance P2P, paying them by UPI or IMPS, at a price each seller sets; on 31 October 2026 that was about 4% above ZebPay’s price for USDT. Recurring buys through Auto-Invest are paid in crypto, not rupees. You can withdraw coins to your own wallet.

How to buy your first Bitcoin in India

  1. Download the app and complete KYC with your PAN and Aadhaar. It usually takes a few minutes.
  2. Add rupees by UPI or IMPS from a bank account in your own name. Money from someone else’s account can be held or sent back.
  3. Buy Bitcoin, or set up a SIP so you invest the same amount every day, week or month.
  4. Once the amount is more than you would be comfortable losing, move it to a wallet you control, from an exchange that allows crypto withdrawals.

Is crypto legal in India?

Yes, buying, holding and selling crypto is legal, but it is not legal tender and no law yet regulates it as an investment. Since March 2023, every platform serving Indian users, Indian or foreign, must register with FIU-IND under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, verify its customers and report suspicious transactions. About 50 platforms are registered, including all five on this page. FIU-IND has asked for the websites and apps of unregistered foreign exchanges to be blocked: Binance was blocked, registered in May 2024 and was fined ₹18.82 crore. FIU-IND sent notices to 25 more offshore platforms in October 2025 and 15 in September 2026.

Registration is not a licence, and there is no deposit insurance on crypto: when WazirX was hacked in 2024, its users waited more than a year under a court-approved restructuring. The RBI has argued against private cryptocurrencies for years. The government said in 2025 it would publish a discussion paper on crypto policy, but by October 2026 it had not, and no crypto bill has been introduced in Parliament.

Taxes

Gains on crypto are taxed at a flat 30%, plus 4% cess and any surcharge, whatever your income slab and however long you held the coins. Only the purchase cost can be deducted, not fees or other expenses, and a loss on one coin cannot be set off against a gain on another or against any other income, or carried forward. On every sale 1% TDS is deducted: Indian exchanges do it for you, and it counts towards your tax when you file. In a peer-to-peer deal the buyer may have to deduct it once payments in the year pass ₹50,000 (₹10,000 for some business owners). Report each sale in Schedule VDA of ITR-2 or ITR-3. These rules, known as sections 115BBH and 194S, carried over into the new Income-tax Act, 2025 from 1 April 2026, and the February 2026 budget did not change the rates. Keep a record of every buy and sell and ask a chartered accountant before filing.
