Trading fees are for the lowest volume tier on each exchange’s order book (Bitso Alpha, Binance Spot, Kraken Pro). The simple “buy” button in each app charges a spread instead, shown before you confirm. Checked on each exchange’s site on Oct 30, 2026.
Each exchange in more detail
Bitso
Bitso is the Mexican exchange, and for most people the easiest place to start. Pesos go in and out by SPEI for free, and recurring buys let you invest a fixed amount every day, week or month.
The simple buy screen charges a spread that Bitso shows before you confirm but does not publish as a percentage. Using Bitso Alpha, the order book, is cheaper: 0.60% to 0.78% for small volumes. In mid 2026 Bitso limited about 50 smaller coins to conversions only, so check that yours is fully supported.
Binance
Binance has the lowest trading fees and the most coins. Since 2025 pesos go through Medá, Binance’s own payment company in Mexico: you get a personal SPEI account after verifying your identity with your CURP.
The app is busier than the others and aimed at traders. Binance does not publish the fee for withdrawing pesos.
Kraken
Kraken added SPEI deposits in 2025: they are free and arrive in minutes, from 150 pesos. Your pesos are converted to US dollars as they arrive, so your balance is in dollars and the conversion spread is not published.
Withdrawing to a Mexican bank costs 0.5%. Kraken Pro fees for small volumes are 0.40% to 0.80%, higher than Bitso Alpha and Binance.
Mercado Pago
If you already use Mercado Pago, you can buy Bitcoin, Ethereum and a few other coins straight from your balance, from small amounts. The fee is shown on the buy screen.
Mercado Pago itself does not run the service: Paxos and Ripio execute the trades and hold the coins. There is no order book, only five coins, and no Solana, USDT or USDC.
How to buy your first Bitcoin in Mexico
- Create an account and verify your identity with your INE and CURP. It usually takes a few minutes.
- Send pesos by SPEI from your bank app to the CLABE the exchange gives you.
- Buy Bitcoin, or set up a recurring buy so you invest the same amount every week or month.
- Once the amount is more than you would be comfortable losing, move it to a wallet you control.

Is crypto regulated in Mexico?
Crypto is legal, but Banco de México does not let banks and other regulated financial institutions offer it to the public. That is why exchanges split the work: a payment company authorized by the CNBV handles your pesos, and a separate company, often abroad, handles the crypto. Neither the crypto nor the exchange is covered by a deposit guarantee.
Exchanges must also report large operations to the SAT under the anti-money-laundering law, and from 30 November 2026 they must register with the SAT as virtual asset service providers.
Taxes
Selling crypto for more than you paid is generally treated as income from selling goods (enajenación de bienes) under the ISR law, and a swap between two coins counts as a sale too. The SAT has not published crypto-specific rules for individuals, so keep a record of every buy and sell and ask an accountant before filing.
Questions
Which exchange is the most trusted in Mexico?
Bitso is the largest Mexican exchange, and its pesos are held by Nvio Pagos México, a payment institution authorized by the CNBV. Binance handles pesos through its own payment company in Mexico, Medá. No crypto exchange is covered by a deposit guarantee, so do not keep more on any of them than you need.
Which is the cheapest way to buy Bitcoin in Mexico?
The order books: Binance Spot at 0.10% per trade, then Bitso Alpha from 0.60%. The simple buy buttons in each app cost more because of the spread. Bitso charges nothing to deposit or withdraw pesos by SPEI.
Can I buy crypto with Mercado Pago?
Yes, from your Mercado Pago balance, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Chainlink and Uniswap available. Paxos and Ripio execute the trades and hold the coins for you.
Do I pay tax on crypto in Mexico?
Gains on selling crypto are generally taxed as income under the ISR law. There are no crypto-specific SAT rules for individuals yet, so check with an accountant.
