How the average price is calculated

Each buy adds amount ÷ price coins. Your average price is the total you invested divided by the total coins you hold. This is a weighted average: bigger buys pull the average toward their price more than small ones.

Adding up the prices and dividing by the number of buys gives the wrong answer whenever the amounts differ. That is the most common mistake this calculator avoids.

Questions

How do I calculate my average crypto price?

Add up everything you spent, then divide by the total number of coins you bought. For example, $100 at $10 and $100 at $40 buys 12.5 coins for $200, an average of $16, not $25.

What does averaging down mean?

Buying more of a coin after its price has fallen, which lowers your average price. It also increases how much you have in that coin, so it raises your risk if the price keeps falling.

Should I include fees?

For an exact cost basis, enter the amount you actually paid including fees, and the price you got. Many exchanges show both on the trade receipt.
