Crypto liquidation price calculator

Estimate the price at which a leveraged position gets liquidated, for longs and shorts. The table shows how the liquidation price moves closer as leverage rises.

Isolated margin estimate. Exchanges also charge fees and funding, and use their own margin tiers.

A 10x long from $78,231 is liquidated around $70,799, a 9.5% move down.

How the liquidation price is estimated

With isolated margin, a long is liquidated near entry × (1 − 1 ÷ leverage + maintenance margin) and a short near entry × (1 + 1 ÷ leverage − maintenance margin). At 10x, a move of about 10% against you wipes out the margin.

Exchanges calculate this slightly differently: fees, funding payments and margin tiers that rise with position size all bring liquidation closer. Treat the result as an estimate and check your exchange's own figure.

Questions

What does liquidation mean?

When a leveraged position loses almost all of its margin, the exchange closes it automatically. You lose the margin you put up for that position.

How do I move my liquidation price further away?

Use less leverage or add margin. Both give the price more room to move against you before the position is closed.

What is maintenance margin?

The minimum margin an exchange requires to keep a position open, as a percentage of its size. It is often around 0.5% for Bitcoin at lower position sizes and higher for larger positions or smaller coins.
